you collect diecast model cars, die cast models or die-cast
replicas, in any scale; The Diecast Magazine is diecast
heaven for any collector.
Season’s greetings to all and welcome to Issue 14
of The Diecast Magazine, which is packed full of diecast,
die-cast and more die cast models. This issue of The Diecast
Magazine was one of our most difficult to produce, simply
because there were so many top quality diecast models becoming
available, making it exceptionally difficult to decide what
to include. Therefore, being the season of giving, we made
the easiest decision, and simply increased the magazine
by 10%. That’s right, more for the same price - how
often does that happen?
front cover of Issue 14 of The Diecast Magazine features
Danbury Mint’s sensational diecast model, replicated
in 1/24 scale, of the 1959 Pontiac Bonneville convertible.
Incorporating new tooling and detail, this is going to be
hot property amongst 1/24 collectors of American icons.
We also review the Danbury Mint 1/24 scale 1960 Cadillac
Eldorado Biarritz Convertible in Heather Blue metallic.
14 of The Diecast Magazine also contains previews of the
brilliant Bauer 1/12 scale diecast model of the Mercedes-Benz
500K Special Roadster, and the Automodello 1938 Phantom
Corsair in 1/24 scale. But wait, there’s more, with
main editorial articles about the 1/18 scale diecast model
from CMC of the Ferrari Race Car Transporter, Top Gear’s
1/24 scale 1994 Honda NSR 500 motorcycle ridden by Michael
Doohan and a 1/72 scale diecast replica of an F-4B Phantom
II VF-111 from 1975, produced by X-Plus. From a resin model
perspective, there is the Spark 1/18 1968 and 1975 Le Mans
Winners article, and the 1963 Italian GP winning Lotus 25
driven by Jim Clark to the 1963 World Championship. For
lovers of white metal hand-built models, Dick Browne provides
an introduction and insight into Tin Wizard, one of many
specialist hand-built 1/43 articles to come in future issues,
so stay tuned.
But The Diecast Magazine isn’t just about diecast
model reviews and this issue is no different, including
an informative article about photorealism - making your
die cast models look real. Not only this, Issue 14 has a
review of the movie Senna. For those of you who have not
seen it, we suggest you do as it is a unique documentary
about one man, Ayrton Senna, who ultimately changed Formula-1
racing protocols and whose legacy lives on to this day.
There is also an intriguing article into the world of fingercraft
provided by AutoArt. If that is not enough, read the interview
of Jaap Van Dijk, from Neo Scale Models, a fascinating insight
into the world of model production from a manufacturer’s
point of view. This and much more awaits your reading pleasure
and enjoyment in Issue 14 of The Diecast Magazine.
In regard to the season of giving, don’t forget our
third annual subscriber giveaway, “Win a Model for
Free”, is happening again from January 1, 2012 until
March 31, 2012. During this time, we give away models randomly
to new, renewing and existing subscribers each week for
the first three months of the year. How silly does that
sound? But yep, that’s what we do here at The Diecast
Magazine. If you aren’t a subscriber, you need to
be. What are you waiting for? Subscribe today for your chance
is one of the best issues of The Diecast Magazine we’ve
produced. With an interview from an industry peer, multiple
“How To” articles, more collectors’ opinions
and collections in the Readers Page and Collectors Post,
and of course detailed diecast model reviews and professional
photography, what else could a diecast collector want with
the diecast X factor? Issue 14 is a collector’s paradise
of information, entertainment and education about what’s
available and what is coming soon.
Also, for those who don’t already know, The Diecast
Magazine has been in every Barnes & Noble bookstore
since the release of Issue 13. This is a major achievement
for The Diecast Magazine and one we are very proud of. The
move also eliminates the problems we had with collectors
saying The Diecast Magazine was “hard to find”.
Not any more! Just roll down to your nearest B&N and
if it isn’t there, it has probably sold out.
14 is available now at select diecast model dealers throughout
